HIGHWAYS
The length of public roads and roads of the Republican and federal meaning passing over the territory of the Republic is 14,5 thous.km., 1,066 of them are federal ones.

There are 3 cargo ports with 5 cargo districts, 4 passenger ports (Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny, Chistopol and Nizhnekamsk), 6 river boat stations and 3 enterprises of industrial railway transport in Tatarstan:
- OJSC «Kazan inter-industry enterprise “Promzheldortrans”,
- LLC «Zheleznodorozhnik»,
- LLC «Promtrans».
On August 27, 2005 a first section of Kazan subway was opened. As of today 6 stations are functioning and 3 stations are under construction.
MOTOR TRANSPORT
An average accountable number of rolling equipment of motor transport enterprises is 2489 units of buses per the year of 2009. These buses provide the transportation of passengers on 951 route, in this regard the number of routes was decreased to 3,8%.
RAIL TRANSPORT
The railway network covers 19 districts in the territory of Republic. Meanwhile, the rail roads rank No.1 by cargo traffic in comparison with other transport types.
In the Republic of Tatarstan the rail transport is presented by the activity of Kazan department of Gorkovsky railway – branch of OJSC “Russian railways” and Kamsky representation of Kuibyshevsky railway-branch of OJSC “Russian railways” in the Republic of Tatarstan and three enterprises of industrial rail transport: Kazan inter-branch enterprise “Promzheldortrans”, “Zheleznodorozhnik” and “Promtrans-A”.
WATER TRANSPORT
In the territory of the Republic two enterprises carrying out passenger transportation by water transport are working: LLC “Kazan river booking office” and branch of LLC “TAIF-Magistral” “River port Naberezhnye Chelny”.
By the results of work per the year of 2009 870,6 thous.people were transported by the enterprises of water transport of the Republic of Tatarstan – there is a reduction of 7,4% in comparison with 2008 (939,3 thous.people).
AIR TRANSPORT
The air transport is presented by the activity of three airports “Kazan”, “Bugulma” and “Begizhevo” in the Republic of Tatarstan.
At the present time in the Republic there are 4 air companies carrying out passenger transportations: OJSC “Air company “Tatarstan”, OJSC “Kazan aviation enterprise”, LLC “Air company “Tulpar Air” and OJSC “Ak Bars Aero”.
In 2009 the decrease of volumes is noted in the comparison with 2008 by the main productional indexes of air companies activity: passenger turnover was decreased to 42% and made 1 197,8 mln.passengers/km; 647,8 thous. people were transported by all types of airlines that makes 67% of achieved level of the previous year.
OIL AND GAS PIPE LINES
In the Republic the largest in the world oil pipe line “Druzhba” begins. The main gas pipe lines by which the natural gas is entered in the Western Europe from minefields of Urengoy and Yamburg are passing through the territory of the Republic.
CARGO TRAFFIC
In 2009 in the Republic the cargo was transferred by motor transport of enterprises of all types of activity (including small motor enterprises and entrepreneurs carrying out commercial cargo traffic) to 10,4 % less than per the same period of 2008 (26,5 mln.tons) on the commercial basis. Over the period under review the cargo turnover was decreased to 10,2% and made 2366,8 mln.thous.km.
The volume of cargo, transferred by the specialized enterprises of motor transport with the account of small motor enterprises and entrepreneurs carrying out commercial cargo traffic was decreased to 9,5% and made 24,6 mln.tons of cargo. The cargo turnover made 92,6% of the level of 2008 (2204 mln.thous.km). About 73,4 % of cargo traffic volume (18,1 mln.tons) is accounted for large and medium specialized motor enterprises. The share of these enterprises in the total volume of commercial cargo turnover made 37,3% (822,9 mln.thous.km).
14088,4 mln.rub. were spent for the implementation of Republican target program “Development of transport complex of the Republic of Tatarstan” for 2006-2010, also from the budget of the Republic of Tatarstan – 7412,9 mln.rub. (the plan provides the attraction of 20971 mln.rub., also from the budget of the subject – 8064,46 mln.rub).
PRIORITIES OF DEVELOPMENT
The aim of the strategy of transport development in the Republic of Tatarstan is an incorporation of all municipal districts in one well coordinated field for the provision of economic and social development of the Republic. A complex development of large road junctions and creation of objects of transport and logistic infrastructure is provided. It will allow providing the growth of quality of transport services and making the transport junctions as management elements of system of placement.
The priorities of transport development in the Republic of Tatarstan are a reconstruction of infrastructure of international airports “Kazan” and “Begizhevo”, organization of intermodal transportations from the station Kazan to the airport Kazan, development of aircraft and motor park of air companies of the Republic of Tatarstan, modernization of park of rolling equipment of motor transport enterprises and enterprises of internal water transport, improvement of port infrastructure, infrastructure of local passenger quays, railway stations and passenger platforms, air terminals and auto stations, development of railway infrastructure of Kamsky economic district.
